Batata Vada

Indulge in the flavorful delight of Batata Vada, a popular Indian snack. This recipe combines mashed potatoes with aromatic spices, coated in a crispy batter and deep-fried to perfection.

Batata Vada Recipe Ingredients:

For the stuffing:

  • 4 medium-sized boiled potatoes
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 green chilies
  • 1-inch ginger
  • 4-5 garlic cloves
  • 4-5 tablespoons chopped coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • Few drops of lemon juice

For the batter:

  • 1 cup chickpea flour/besan
  • Salt to taste
  • Less than 1/4 teaspoon hing
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder

For the tadka:

  • 1 tablespoon Puvi Cold Pressed Mustard Oil
  • 1 teaspoon mustard seeds
  • 1/4 teaspoon asafoetida
  • 1/4 teaspoon turmeric powder

And Puvi Cold Pressed Mustard Oil for frying the vadas.

Preparation of Aloo Vada:

Stuffing:

  1. Grind green chilies, ginger, and garlic to a paste.
  2. Mash the boiled potatoes and add the green chili, ginger, and garlic paste, chopped coriander, cumin powder, and salt.
  3. Heat 1 tablespoon of Puvi Cold Pressed Mustard Oil in a deep pan. Add mustard seeds and let them crackle. Then add turmeric and asafoetida.
  4. Add the potato mixture and stir well until everything is combined and cooked.
  5. Remove from the heat, add lemon juice, mix well, and let it cool.
  6. Shape the mixture into balls and set them aside.

Vada:

  1. In a bowl, mix besan, hing powder, baking soda, turmeric powder, chili powder, and salt. Gradually add water to make a batter of medium consistency.
  2. Heat Puvi Cold Pressed Mustard Oil in a pan.
  3. Dip the mashed potato balls into the batter and fry them in the hot oil.
  4. Fry the vadas over medium heat until they turn golden brown and are thoroughly cooked.
  5. Remove excess oil using a tissue and serve.
