This sesame oil is our 'Signature Dish'! PUVI means Earth, a reminder of the soil we so value. The product comes from a family-run business that's been in agriculture for centuries. We have been making our own cold pressed sesame oils for personal consumption for nearly 200 years now. The result of methods fine-tuned over all these years is now in a bottle for you.
Puvi cold pressed sesame oil is less dense, not too pungent, smoother than others while still being potent. The oil is unrefined and naturally clarified. This keeps nutrients intact. The oil may appear a bit cloudy or have tiny sediments at the bottom of bottle; but it is not a cause of concern.
A good sesame oil’s difference will be seen when you do oil pulling (gargle it in the mouth), it would not solidify in the mouth and would start to become thinner after a minute. Also, it won’t be overpoweringly pungent but would start releasing a rich sesame aroma in the mouth after a minute. During body massage you can find your hand gliding in perfect viscosity – not too thick nor too thin. It will smell good after application and exposure to air.
This is not a mass production oil, it's a really pure handcrafted oil made for discerning customers who appreciate quality. We don’t aim to make price competitive cheap oil, but to give value by reducing unwanted expenses. If you find it expensive, it's not because of our margins. It's what it costs to get a quality product to your doorstep across the country.
We maintain an all-natural production process and don’t standardise our cold pressed sesame oils using artificial colours or essences. There may be a minor difference in aroma and colour across batches. Foaming/Frothing can happen during deep frying in any cold pressed, raw oil. It's because of excessive moisture in food and oil heat. Try frying a small ball of tamarind first to prevent frothing.
Cold Pressed oil is extracted from nuts and seeds at temperatures not exceeding 50 degrees Celsius. There is no addition of any solvent to increase the Oil production or any other artificial methods. Due to lower temperature of extraction, Cold Pressed Oils are rich in nutrients, flavour and aroma. On the contrary, during the production of Refined Oils, excessive heat and chemical solvents are used which enhance the production. However, in the process the refined oils lose the nutritional values.
Puvi Sesame Oil is ideal to be used for Sauteing and as Vinaigrettes for Salads. It is also well suited for Dosa, variety rice, poriyal, veg side dishes, gravy, sambar, chutneys etc.
Puvi Cold Pressed Oils are extracted from superior quality Sesame seeds that are not malformed. As the oil is extracted using the Cold Pressing methods, the amount of oil extracted is substantially low compared to the refined oils that are extracted using high temperatures. Maintenance of the superior quality of oils increases the cost of production which makes Puvi Cold Pressed Oils a bit high priced than the unhealthy refined oils.
Our oils are filtered naturally due to which you might find some sediments of the groundnuts at the bottom. This also causes the oil to look cloudy when shaken.
At the time of cold pressing, little bit of water is added to the seeds to keep the temperature low so that the nutritional value, flavour and aroma of the oil is retained. This caused the oil to froth, when heated. To reduce the froth try adding a little bit of Tamarind while heating the oil. Once the oil is heated, remove the tamarind and continue with your cooking as usual.
Litre is a measure of volume while Kg is the measurement of weight. And, depending on the density of the liquid the amount of litres in 1 Kg differs from one to another. For example, while 1-litre Groundnut oil weighs approx. 900gm, 1-litre water weighs equal to 1 Kg of water.
