Dal Dhokli

Dal Dhokli Recipe Ingredients:

For Dal:

  • ½ cup toor dal, rinsed
  • 1½ cup water
  • 1 tsp Puvi Cold Pressed Sesame Oil
  • 2 tbsp peanuts
  • 1 tsp ghee
  • 1 tsp mustard
  • ½ tsp cumin / jeera
  • 1 chili, broken
  • A pinch of hing / asafoetida
  • A few curry leaves
  • 1 tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
  • 1½ cup water
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ¾ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp cumin powder
  • ½ tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp garam masala
  • A small piece of jaggery
  • ¾ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp lemon juice
  • 2 tbsp coriander, finely chopped

For Dhokli:

  • 1 cup wheat flour / atta
  • ¼ tsp turmeric
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chili powder
  • ¼ tsp ajwain / carom seeds
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tsp Puvi Cold Pressed Sesame Oil
  • ½ cup water

Preparation of Dal Dhokli:

  1. In a large kadai, heat 1 tsp ghee and splutter the tempering by adding mustard seeds, cumin seeds, broken chili, hing, and curry leaves.
  2. Add chopped tomatoes and ginger garlic paste. Sauté until the tomatoes become soft and mushy.
  3. Add cooked toor dal, 1½ cups of water, and mix well, adjusting the consistency as required.
  4. Add turmeric, Kashmiri red chili powder, cumin powder, coriander powder, and garam masala. Combine well to ensure all the spices are thoroughly mixed.
  5. Stir in the cooked peanuts, a small piece of jaggery, ¾ tsp salt, and 1 tsp lemon juice.
  6. Once the dal comes to a boil, drop in the dhokli pieces and give it a good mix.
  7. Cover and boil for 10-15 minutes or until the dhokli is cooked completely.
  8. Finally, garnish with 2 tbsp of finely chopped coriander.
  9. Serve the delicious Dal Dhokli hot with steamed rice and relish the heartwarming flavors.
