Bengali Aam Dal

PREPARATION:

  • Peel and cut a green mango into strips.
  • Wash 100g of red lentils(Masoor dal) thoroughly.

TEMPERING:

  • In a pressure cooker heat 2 tbsp of Puvi Cold Pressed Mustard Oil.
  • Add 1 tsp of mustard seeds and 1 dry red chili.
  • Let them sizzle. Introduce the green mango strips and cook for a minute after adding salt.

COOKING:

  • Add the washed red lentils(Masoor dal) to the cooker.
  • Pour 2.5 cups of water and sprinkle 1 tsp of turmeric powder.
  • Mix in 3 tbsp of sugar and adjust salt to taste.

PRESSURE COOKING:

  • Cover the cooker and cook on low flame until 3 whistles.
  • Turn off the flame and wait for the pressure to release completely.

SERVING:

  • Open the lid, mix the dal gently, and serve hot with steamed rice.
  • Enjoy the delightful blend of flavors and the essence of Bengali cuisine!
